Tasting notes
This white Burgundy is an assemblage of three vineyards – Saint-Jacques, En Varot and Chaponnière – whose fruit comes together beautifully in 2023 to produce a vibrant, finely-chiseled wine. The palate shows crisp appley fruit with the lively freshness of the vintage, subtly layered with hints of citrus blossom and a gentle touch of youthful honeyed richness.
More About The Winery
A discreet yet highly respected figure in Burgundy, François d'Allaines represents a new generation of vignerons committed to precision and authenticity. At Domaine d’Allaines, located in the Côte Chalonnaise, his work focuses on expressing the purity of terroir through thoughtful, low-intervention winemaking.
The vineyards are rooted in limestone and clay soils, typical of southern Burgundy, which bring both structure and freshness to the wines. Working with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, d’Allaines crafts wines that emphasise balance over power, favouring elegance, tension, and clarity of fruit.
In the cellar, the approach remains deliberately restrained. Fermentations are carried out with care, often with limited use of new oak, allowing the wines to retain their vibrancy and mineral expression. The result is a style that is both approachable and refined, with a clear Burgundian identity.
The whites show notes of citrus, white orchard fruit, and subtle floral nuances, supported by a clean, mineral backbone. The reds offer bright red berries, gentle spice, and fine tannins, with an emphasis on drinkability and finesse rather than extraction.
Domaine d’Allaines captures the spirit of the Côte Chalonnaise: honest, precise, and quietly elegant wines, offering a compelling alternative to the more famous appellations of the Côte d’Or while maintaining a strong sense of place.
