100% Pinot Noir
Tasting notes
The most generous of the Tellier Champagnes. The first nose is fresh and fruity, with yellow fruit and green melon on a minty background, opening with air to hazelnut, butter, brioche and thyme. The palate is soft and comfortable on entry, then ample and full with an almost oily richness, a biscuity, lightly woody depth and a dense, caressing texture. The very long finish shows soft tannins and a chalky freshness. Perfect with fine seafood such as roasted scallops, sole meunière or turbot.
About the Winery
Champagne Tellier is a family estate based in Moussy, just south of Épernay, between the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. The family has owned vines here since 1938, and in 2016 brothers Quentin and Alexandre Tellier began vinifying their own grower Champagnes, vinifying each plot separately to capture its micro-terroir.
La Goutte d'Or is a single south-facing parcel of Pinot Noir in Fontaine-sur-Aÿ, planted in 2001 on very chalky soil with almost no topsoil. The wine is fermented and aged in barrel for 8 months with regular stirring, then aged for at least 40 months on its lees under cork before disgorgement with a very low dosage. It is unfined and only lightly filtered.
