Tasting Notes
From a small, chalk-rich parcel tended by brothers Quentin and Alexandre Tellier, "Les Monts d'Or" is the kind of grower Champagne that rewards those willing to look beyond the grandes maisons. The 2021 is all Chardonnay, and it makes no attempt to hide it — chalk and saline energy run straight through the wine like a current, from the first pour to the last. Careful barrel ageing has added breadth without blurring the picture: there is lemon curd, white flower, and a faint almond note, but always that mineral spine pulling everything into focus. Extra Brut dosage keeps the finish taut and honest. This is a wine of place before it is a wine of style — precise, unhurried, and quietly singular.
More About The Winery
Located in Moussy near Épernay, between the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs, Champagne Tellier is a rising grower estate at the heart of the region. With 7 hectares in Moussy and Pierry (the historic Domaine des Conardins) and another 2 hectares across Chavot, Fontaine/Aÿ, and Cramant, the domaine farms 13 plots, each vinified separately to showcase its unique terroir.
The vineyards are planted primarily to Pinot Meunier (59%), balanced with Chardonnay (35%) and a touch of Pinot Noir (6%). Deeper soils over chalk in Moussy and Pierry give wines structure and length, while the chalky terroirs of Chavot, Aÿ, and Cramant bring elegance, minerality, and finesse.
A new chapter began in 2014, when the estate was acquired by the Moulin and Cathiard families, bringing fresh vision and energy. Today, Champagne Tellier is celebrated for Champagnes that combine power, elegance, and precise terroir expression, crafted with respect for nature and tradition.
