Château Calon Segur

One of the most historic estates of the Médoc, Château Calon-Ségur is a Third Growth (Troisième Cru Classé) of the 1855 Classification, located in the northern commune of Saint-Estèphe. Its history dates back to the 18th century, when the famous Marquis de Ségur — who also owned Lafite and Latour — declared: “I make my wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is at Calon.” This heart remains immortalized on the château’s label today.

The estate’s 55 hectares of vines are planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The gravel and clay-limestone soils of Saint-Estèphe give Calon-Ségur its signature style: powerful, structured, yet elegant wines with great ageing potential.

While the Grand Vin requires time to reveal its full complexity, the second wine, Le Marquis de Calon-Ségur, offers a softer, more approachable expression of the estate’s terroir.
