Domaine des Terres Blanches
On the northern slopes of the Alpilles, where the soils are as white as chalk and the ancient Via Aurelia once passed, lies the historic Domaine des Terres Blanches. Founded in 1968 by Noël Michelin, the estate began with just 25 acres and a vision of hand harvesting and organic farming, decades before sustainability became a trend.
Michelin expanded the vineyard to nearly 100 acres, built a winery in 1973, and created the benchmark cuvée Aurélia, which helped define the AOP Les Baux-de-Provence. His influence was so profound that he was elected president of the local winegrowers’ syndicate.
In 2012, the estate was acquired by new owners, and today under Christian Latouche (also of Domaine de la Vallongue), Terres Blanches has risen to become one of the most respected domaines in Provence. Its wines — elegant rosés, complex reds, and refined whites — are found on the tables of some of the world’s greatest chefs.
