Red currant, lead pencil and terra cotta aromas with some bay leaf and sage. Full-bodied with tight, firm tannins that are polished and very fine. Turns to graphite. Extremely long, refined, polished and exquisite. Best after 2028."
About the Winery
Founded in 1992 by Ann Colgin, Colgin Cellars has become one of the most iconic names in Napa Valley, often referred to as a “cult winery” for its limited production and exceptional quality.
The estate is built around some of Napa’s most prestigious hillside vineyards, including the famed IX Estate on Pritchard Hill. These sites, characterised by volcanic soils, low yields, and optimal sun exposure, produce fruit of remarkable concentration and structure.
Colgin’s philosophy is rooted in precision and craftsmanship. Each wine is carefully composed, typically centred on Cabernet Sauvignon, with blends that may include Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The goal is not simply power, but balance, texture, and purity, resulting in wines that are both opulent and impeccably structured.
In the glass, Colgin wines display intense cassis, blackberry, graphite, dark chocolate, and floral nuances, supported by finely integrated tannins and a long, layered finish. Despite their richness, they retain a sense of freshness and detail that elevates them beyond sheer concentration.
Produced in extremely limited quantities, Colgin Cellars wines are highly sought after worldwide. They represent the pinnacle of modern Napa Valley winemaking: bold yet refined, powerful yet precise, and unmistakably expressive of their exceptional terroirs.
