Cabernet Sauvignon (about 77%), Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot
Tasting notes
A wine of extraordinary depth and intensity, awarded perfect scores by several leading critics. Granite, charcoal and sage lead to wild blueberry and black cherry, with crushed herbs, lavender, menthol, chocolate, liquorice and exotic spice. The palate is intensely structured with sculpted, fine-grained tannins, vibrant minerality and a dense, chiselled core, promising a long, velvety evolution over decades. Decant well ahead and serve with prime beef or lamb.
About the Winery
Colgin Cellars was founded by Ann Colgin in 1992 and quickly became one of Napa Valley's most celebrated cult producers, recognised among the world's top wine estates within just over a decade.
IX Estate is Colgin's own vineyard on Pritchard Hill, an east-facing site of volcanic soils high above Lake Hennessey. First produced in 2002, the IX Estate red is a powerful, mineral Cabernet-based blend that can be enjoyed in youth yet ages gracefully for many years.
