60% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache
Tasting notes
A nose full of red cherry fruit, perfumed with violets and wild garrigue herbs. The palate is deep and harmonious, combining ripe dark fruit and pepper with fine, supple tannins, freshness and a long finish. Elegant and structured, it will age beautifully, especially in magnum. Serve with duck, grilled beef or lamb with herbs.
About the Winery
Domaine de Montcalmès is run by Frédéric Pourtalié, who farms around 25 hectares in the Terrasses du Larzac, based in Puéchabon with vines also in neighbouring Aniane and Saint-Saturnin. All the vineyards are farmed organically, without herbicides or pesticides, on clay-limestone terroirs.
The flagship Terrasses du Larzac red keeps a consistent blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache. Each variety is aged separately in barrels for around two years before blending, and the wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
