Côte-Rôtie has a reputation for muscle, but the 2015 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Côte-Rôtie 'Domaine des Pierrelles' takes a gentler route. This 100% Syrah is silky, elegant, and approachable, a wine that wears its rugged northern Rhône origins lightly.
The aroma leans into pure black raspberries and blackberry, joined by spiced meats, leather, dried flowers, and forest floor, all framed by a subtle smokiness. On the palate it's medium to full-bodied but smooth and silky, surprisingly gentle for a wine grown on such rugged terrain. Dry, at roughly 13% alcohol, it carries balanced acidity and refined tannins throughout.
The grapes, 100% Syrah come from granitic and micaschist soils in the southern reaches of Côte-Rôtie.
