Tasting notes
Saint-Émilion's second wines can feel like afterthoughts, but the 2019 Le Carillon de l'Angélus doesn't an elegant, medium-to-full-bodied blend of roughly 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc that stands well on its own.
The color is deep, dense, and radiant, a purple-garnet that hints at what's to come. The nose is fragrant and delicate, opening with floral notes of violets, lavender, and red roses before an explosion of creamy red and black fruit — cranberry, red cherry, blackberry, raspberry takes over, rounded out by sweet tobacco, bark, earth, graphite, and baking spice.
