Tasting notes
Crafted from 100% Roussanne grapes and aged in oak casks, Famille Alain Jaume's Domaine Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape 'La Fontaine' White is a rich, full-bodied gastronomy wine with a yellow-gold color, aromas of citrus, tropical fruit, quince, honey, and vanilla, and a generous, elegant palate balanced by bright acidity and exceptional length.
100% Roussanne from cool sandy-clay plots, showing a deep yellow-gold color. The nose offers rich citrus fruit, tropical notes, quince, honey, and a gentle touch of vanilla. On the palate it's generous, mixing exotic and stone fruits in a plush texture with vibrant structure and fine acidity, closing on a long, harmonious, mineral finish.
More About The Winery
The official history of Domaine Grand Veneur in the Southern Rhone Valley dates back to 1826 when the Jaume family first planted vines in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Jumping ahead from the early days of Mathieu Jaume to the modern era, five generations later in 1979, Alain Jaume and Odile Jaume took over the traditionally managed Domaine Grand Veneur.
In 1986, under the direction of Alain Jaume, Grand Veneur became perhaps the first estate in Chateauneuf-du-Pape to experiment with aging some grape varieties in new, French oak barrels. The Jaume family continued to make additional purchases in the appellation, growing the Domaine to its current 16 hectares of vines in Chateauneuf du Pape, with further plantings in Lirac and the Côtes du Rhone appellations.
Now run by the fifth generation, Alain Jaume's children Sébastien and Christophe have continued the estate's expansion while pushing further into organic and biodynamic farming. 'La Fontaine' is a rare cuvée within the appellation, showcasing Roussanne's aromatic complexity and richness in a region overwhelmingly planted to red varieties.
