Tasting notes

La Mission is one of the Côte Chalonnaise's quiet arguments for taking Mercurey seriously. As a monopole, it speaks with a single, uninterrupted voice — and in 2024, that voice is confident and precise. The nose opens with citrus zest and white peach, edged with subtle floral lift and a whisper of toasted oak that knows its place. On the palate, texture is the defining quality: creamy without heaviness, the wine moves with a kind of composed fluidity before arriving at a finish that is distinctly mineral, clean, and long. This is Chardonnay that earns its structure rather than borrowing it. For those who find Côte de Beaune whites just out of reach, La Mission offers something genuinely compelling — not as a consolation, but on its own terms.

More About The Winery

Built in the early 18th century, Château de Chamirey holds a privileged position overlooking the vineyards of Mercurey in the Côte Chalonnaise. The domaine spans 37 hectares across a mosaic of soils and microclimates, reflecting the diversity and depth of the appellation.

In 1934, the visionary Marquis de Jouennes became one of the first in Mercurey to bottle wines directly at the estate, setting a new standard for quality. His son-in-law, Bertrand Devillard, expanded the domaine further into Mercurey’s finest terroirs, bringing it to its present size of 95 acres (around 37 hectares).

Today, the estate is run by Amaury and Aurore Devillard, the fifth generation of this Burgundian wine family, who continue the legacy of crafting refined, terroir-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that showcase the best of Mercurey.
