Introducing Château Dompierre: A Rare Approach to Pauillac

October 5, 2026

We are delighted to welcome Château Dompierre to The Vintage Wine Club portfolio. A family-owned Pauillac estate run by Michel Aroldi, Dompierre does something almost unheard of in its appellation, and the wines are all the more compelling for it.

A different path in Pauillac

Pauillac is home to some of the most famous names in Bordeaux, and a winemaking model that has barely changed in generations: a blend of grapes, aged in small 225-litre barriques. Michel Aroldi departs from that classic Bordeaux school in pursuit of purer, more terroir-driven wines.

Two choices set Dompierre apart:

  • 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Rather than blending, the estate lets Pauillac's defining grape speak on its own.
  • Large-format Burgundian oak vats. Ageing in larger vessels means less direct oak influence than small barrels. The fruit, the structure and the site come through more clearly.

In a region built around small-barrel ageing, it is a rare approach, and one that will appeal both to lovers of classic Bordeaux and to drinkers who usually reach for Burgundy.

The range

Château Dompierre produces five cuvées, from an approachable Vin de France to its flagship Pauillac. Together they offer an unusually complete view of one estate's philosophy, at every level of the table.
