Domaine de Montcalmes | The Gems from Larzac

Tucked in the rolling hills northwest of Montpellier, Domaine de Montcalmès is a family-run gem in the Terrasses du Larzac appellation. Founded in 1998 by Frédéric Pourtalié, the estate spans 22 hectares of clay, limestone, and galets roulés soils, with vineyards planted at elevation to benefit from warm days and cool Cévennes nights. Clos du Rouge Gorge | A unique style

Tucked within the steep terraces of Latour-de-France in Roussillon, Clos du Rouge Gorge is the soulful project of Cyril Fhal, who began crafting wines there in 2002. Working just 6–7 hectares of old vines on schist, gneiss, and granite soils, Cyril farms biodynamically with horses and hand tools to preserve the land’s vitality. His low-intervention approach yields elegant, mineral-driven wines—from silky Grenache and Carignan reds to vibrant, Burgundian-style whites made from Macabeu. Clos des Fees | Herve Bizeul

Clos des Fées, founded by Hervé Bizeul in the high-altitude vineyards of Roussillon, has become a flagship of the region. Its flagship cuvée, Le Clos des Fées, is a grand red blend of Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah, known for its elegance, spice, and aging potential. Robert Parker often awards it in the mid‑90s. The estate also produces the more accessible “Les Sorcières” and the expressive “Vieilles Vignes,” crafted from old vines to offer depth, complexity, and a true sense of place in every sip.
