Why Climate Matters for Wine
Wine is a living product that evolves continuously in the bottle. The enemies of wine are heat, light, vibration, and humidity extremes. In Singapore:
Temperature fluctuations accelerate chemical reactions inside the bottle, causing premature ageing and loss of fruit.
High humidity can cause mould on corks and labels, though it rarely penetrates a properly sealed bottle.
Direct sunlight (UV) degrades wine rapidly — even a few hours of direct sun can "cook" a fine bottle.
The Three Storage Options
Option 1: A dedicated wine fridge (SGD 300–800)
A basic wine fridge set to 14°C with UV-resistant glass is sufficient for wines you plan to drink within 1–3 years. Brands like Caso, Liebherr, and Climadiff are widely available in Singapore. Keep the fridge away from direct sunlight and ensure the temperature is stable.
Option 2: Air-conditioned room (free, with caveats)
A spare bedroom set to 20–22°C, with bottles lying on their side in a cardboard box, works reasonably well for short-term storage (under 12 months). The risk is temperature fluctuation when the AC is off.
Option 3: Professional in-bond storage
