Spotlight on Loire Valley: Discover Exceptional French Wines Available in Singapore

June 29, 2026

There is a river in France that stretches for over a thousand kilometres, winding through castles, gardens, and some of the most enchanting vineyards in the world. The Loire Valley is often called the "Garden of France" and its wines are just as varied, alive, and captivating as the landscape that produces them.

This July, we turn our full attention to the Loire. From the mineral-driven whites of the Atlantic coast to the brooding Cabernet Francs of the inland valleys, this is a region that rewards curiosity. We have selected exceptional producers from three distinct sub-regions, each offering something that simply cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

Anjou-Saumur: Where Tradition Meets Natural Expression

Straddling the Maine and Loire rivers, Anjou-Saumur is a land of tuffeau limestone, ancient cellars, and winemakers who treat their vineyards as living systems. This is a cornerstone of organic and biodynamic wine production in France.

Domaine des Roches Neuves

Based in Varrains in the heart of Saumur-Champigny, Thierry Germain has become one of the Loire's most admired voices. His Cabernet Franc vines grow in the region's distinctive tufa soils, producing wines of extraordinary freshness, precision, and depth. Biodynamically farmed and naturally vinified, the wines from Roches Neuves are alive in the glass — red-fruited, earthy, and unmistakably of their place.

Nicolas Joly

No name in the Loire carries more weight than Nicolas Joly. The father of biodynamic viticulture in France, Joly and his daughter Virginie farm the legendary Coulée de Serrant — a single-vineyard monopole in the Savennières appellation that has produced wine for over 800 years. His Chenin Blancs are unlike anything else: oxidative, complex, mineral-streaked, and built for decades of ageing. To drink Joly is to understand what Chenin Blanc is truly capable of.

Touraine: Cabernet Franc at its Most Expressive

Move east along the Loire and you reach the Touraine — the heartland of Chinon and Bourgueil, where Cabernet Franc reigns supreme. The soils here shift from sandy gravels to tuffeau and clay, each terroir leaving its signature on the wine. If you are looking to buy Cabernet Franc wines in Singapore, look no further.

Domaine Philippe Alliet

Philippe Alliet is the quiet giant of Chinon. Working from a small domaine in Cravant-les-Coteaux, he has spent decades proving that Chinon can age as gracefully as any great red in France. His wines are structured but not severe, perfumed with violets and dark berries, with a savoury, iron-tinged finish that speaks directly of the tuffeau beneath his vines. These are wines to open with intention — and to remember.

Domaine Frédéric Mabileau

In Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Frédéric Mabileau crafts Cabernet Franc that is the definition of approachable complexity. His vineyards sit on sandy and gravelly soils, which give his wines a lighter, more immediately charming character — floral, juicy, and refreshing. Committed to organic farming, the energy in his wines reflects the vitality of his land.

Central Loire: The Kingdom of Sauvignon Blanc

Further inland, the river bends toward Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, the twin capitals of the world's most celebrated Sauvignon Blanc. The soils here, Kimmeridgian limestone, silex, and flint give the wines a cut and minerality that no other place on earth can replicate.

Domaine du Bouchot

Situated in Pouilly-sur-Loire, Domaine du Bouchot is a reference point for what Pouilly-Fumé can be at its finest: precise, smoky, citrus-bright, and deeply mineral. These wines perform beautifully alongside seafood and light Asian fare — making them a natural fit for Singapore's dining culture.

Domaine Thomas & Fils

The Thomas family has farmed Sancerre for generations, and their wines carry the quiet authority of deep experience. Balanced, focused, and consistently excellent, their Sancerre is the kind of bottle you reach for when you want something reliable and utterly satisfying — a glass of chalk and grapefruit and the Loire wind.

Domaine Alphonse Mellot

Few names in Sancerre carry the heritage of Mellot. With roots going back to the 17th century, the Mellot family have been shaping the identity of Sancerre for nearly four centuries. Today, Alphonse Mellot Jr. runs the domaine with a commitment to organic farming and artisanal winemaking. His wines — both white and red — are among the benchmarks of the appellation: generous, mineral, complex, and endlessly satisfying.

Why Loire Valley Wines Are Perfect for Singapore?

In Singapore's heat and humidity, the Loire is perhaps the most naturally suited wine region in France for our table. The whites are crisp and salivating. The reds are lighter, cooler, and infinitely food-friendly. And the producers we have selected — many of them farming organically or biodynamically, represent wines made with real integrity.

Whether you are pairing with local zi char, a hawker centre feast, or a quiet dinner at home, Loire wines adapt beautifully. This is the Loire we love and we are delighted to share it with Singapore.
