Southern Rhône Valley Wines

Châteauneuf-du-Pape was among the first six appellations ever recognised in France, in 1936, and today covers just over 3,200 hectares of galets roulés — the famous rolled stones that store the sun's heat through the night — permitting a remarkable eighteen grape varieties in its blends, more than any other French appellation. Around it, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, and the Côtes du Rhône Villages bring similarly generous, Grenache-led wines from the sun-drenched hillsides of the southern Rhône.
