Tasting notes

Dark red in colour. The nose features great depth, revealing aromas of cherry and forest undergrowth (moss, fresh humus). The palate is well balanced, with the same notes of cherry perceived on the nose. There is even a certain impression of sucrosity, along with spicy notes, a hint of truffle and all of the richness typical of Nuits-Saint-Georges in the northern part of the appellation, wines that are riper and more concentrated.

The grapes are handpicked and sorted before being destemmed and transferred to vats using gravity. Vinification lasts approximately 18 days with a few punch-downs toward the end of fermentation. Oak barrel ageing lasts 14 months (30% new oak).

The etymology of the word “chaignot” is debated. It could refer to a “chênaie” (a plantation of oak trees). Other sources suggest a link with “iron-rich soil”. The 5.8-ha plot is located in the northern part of the appellation (toward Vosne-Romanée) at an altitude of between 260 and 280m, in rather deep soil composed of gravel that yields wines that are very ripe with even greater structure. The fact that the plot benefits from privileged southeastern exposure allows for good ripening of the grapes.

About the winery

The Delaunay story is absolutely unique!

25 years earlier, the Delaunay family sold the family premium wine estate. A couple of years ago, Laurent Delaunay,  the 5th  generation of a family of winemakers and négociants, is re-appropriating his family’s history!

After a few years of intense work at the cellar by Laurent, we can tell : Delaunay is back on the very front of the scene with nicest appellations, superb juices.
