Tasting notes
The 2010 Château Lynch-Bages is a full-bodied Pauillac with a deep garnet color, exhibiting intense black fruit notes like cassis and blackberry, complemented by aromas of cigar box, pencil shavings, smoke, and violet. It features firm, fine-grained tannins, lively acidity, and a dense, muscular core, showcasing exceptional concentration and complexity. This wine is a powerful, brooding, and backward expression that is still in its infancy, promising exceptional long-term aging and complexity with further bottle age.

More About The Winery
Origins in the 18th Century
The estate takes its name from the village of Bages, just outside Pauillac, where a community of winegrowers thrived for centuries. In the early 18th century, Thomas Lynch, of Irish descent, inherited the vineyard through marriage and gave it the name that endures today: Château Lynch-Bages.
The 1855 Classification
During the famous 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Lynch-Bages was ranked as a Fifth Growth (Cinquième Cru Classé). Despite this modest ranking, the wine’s quality has long been considered closer to that of a Super Second or even a Grand Cru, thanks to its consistency and reputation.
The Cazes Family Era
In 1939, the property was acquired by Jean-Charles Cazes, whose family would transform Lynch-Bages into one of Bordeaux’s most beloved and internationally recognized estates. Under the guidance of André Cazes and later Jean-Michel Cazes, Lynch-Bages became a benchmark for Pauillac wines, known for their power, structure, and longevity.
Style & Reputation
Often called the “Super Fifth,” Château Lynch-Bages produces wines with the depth and richness more often associated with higher-ranked crus. They are built on the classic Pauillac profile: Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant, full-bodied, with notes of cassis, cedar, tobacco, and graphite. Their ageing potential makes them staples in serious collectors’ cellars worldwide.
The Modern Era
Today, under the stewardship of Jean-Charles Cazes (the grandson of Jean-Michel), the estate continues to innovate while preserving tradition. Recent renovations, including a new state-of-the-art winery completed in 2020, have further elevated quality. Lynch-Bages remains a global symbol of Bordeaux excellence, bridging heritage with modern precision.
