Tasting notes
Bold and deeply rooted, the Grand Veneur 'Le Miocène' Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2020 draws its name and its character from the ancient Miocene soils that underpin the appellation's most distinctive terroirs. A Grenache-led blend with Syrah and Mourvèdre, it opens with ripe black fruit and a captivating violet perfume before revealing a mineral-salty depth on the palate that speaks directly to the geology beneath the vines. Firm yet elegant tannins provide the architecture, while the organic farming lends a vitality and precision that elevates this well above the appellation's more opulent offerings. Châteauneuf with genuine terroir conviction.
More About The Winery
Founded in 1826 by Mathieu Jaume, Domaine du Grand Veneur has grown into one of the leading family estates of the southern Rhône Valley. Today, the estate is managed by the 5th and 6th generations — Alain Jaume and his children Christophe, Sébastien, and Hélène — who continue a tradition of crafting wines that combine heritage, terroir, and modern precision.
Based in the northern part of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the domaine spans 225 acres across four appellations: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes-du-Rhône (including Les Champauvins), Lirac, and Vacqueyras. While historically known for its whites, since 1995 the focus has been on powerful and expressive reds, alongside fresh whites and elegant rosés.
All vineyards are farmed under certified organic agriculture, with practices that include light plowing, natural compost, controlled yields, green harvesting, and meticulous hand harvesting and sorting. This commitment to detail ensures wines of concentration, finesse, and terroir expression.
