Wine Region: Rhone Valley - France
Grape: Blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvdre
Tasting notes: This is a silky, medium-bodied wine. Cinnamon and cedar shadings frame bright cherry fruit and linger through the elegant finish.
About the winery: Château la Genestière is the living memory of the history of the Avignon region. Indeed, in the 16th century the domain was a silkworm farm. The body of water, which was used to supply the mill for silk weaving, still attests to this today. Textile broom (Spanish broom) was cultivated there. In the 18th century this sericulture activity employed 15,000 people in Avignon, France was then the world’s leading exporter of silk.
The winemaking history of the estate began in 1930, following the decline of sericulture. In 1994 Jean-Claude and Raphaël Garcin bought the Domaine, whose reputation in France and abroad was already considerable. Then, over the years, work, perseverance and know-how have made it possible to add the Domaines Saint-Anthelme, Les Ramières and Longval to the Domaine de La Genestière, to now cover the prestigious appellations of Tavel, Châteauneuf du Pape, Lirac and Côtes. of the Rhône.
In 2015, the estate was bought by Christian Latouche, already owner of two estates in Les Baux de Provence, to continue to promote the exceptional heritage of Château la Genestière.
