Tasting Notes & Ratings

100% Syrah

Expert Rating

95/100 points Vinous

“Glass-staining ruby. Cassis, cherry-cola, olive paste, exotic spices and pungent flowers on the highly expressive nose. Shows impressive depth as well as energy to its sweet black and blue fruit, allspice, salty olive and candied violet flavors, which take on a mineral aspect with air. Youthfully chewy tannins add grip to an impressively long and focused finish that emphatically repeats the floral and mineral notes. I’ve no doubt that this wine will reward patience, and my drinking window is probably overly conservative.”

More About The Winery

Founded in 1985, Domaine Alain Graillot has become one of the most respected names in the Northern Rhône, particularly in the appellation of Crozes-Hermitage. Alain Graillot, a passionate vigneron who left a career in the chemical industry to pursue his love of wine, quickly built a reputation for producing Syrah wines of purity, freshness, and finesse, admired by sommeliers and collectors worldwide.

The estate’s vineyards lie on the alluvial plains of the Rhône River, with gravel, sand, and limestone soils that impart elegance and minerality to the wines. The domaine is renowned for its use of whole-cluster fermentation, native yeasts, and minimal intervention, resulting in wines that are vibrant, aromatic, and true to terroir.

Today, the domaine is run by Alain’s sons, Maxime and Antoine Graillot, who continue their father’s philosophy while refining the style. In addition to the benchmark Crozes-Hermitage Rouge, the domaine also produces highly regarded Crozes-Hermitage Blanc from Marsanne and Roussanne, and limited bottlings of Saint-Joseph and Cornas.
