Tasting notes
Call it a dark horse if you like, though after a sip, the surprise is that it surprises anyone at all. "Saint-Christophe" is an assemblage of two complementary parcels: Les Casse-Têtes, high on the slope, brings mineral tension and cool-fruited precision; Les Petites Charrons, lower down, adds generosity and textural weight. In 2023 — a warm, generous vintage that demanded careful handling, Montille has threaded the needle beautifully. The wine is plush without being soft, energetic without being austere. Ripe pear, hazelnut, and a suggestion of white flowers sit above a frame of real mineral drive, and the finish has the kind of length that keeps you returning to the glass. For those who find village Meursault a reliable address, this is a reminder that the appellation still holds secrets. A wine to follow closely.
More About The Winery
The De Montille family has been a cornerstone of Burgundy for centuries, but the domaine’s reputation was firmly established in 1947, when Hubert de Montille inherited vineyards in Volnay. Hubert’s wines became legendary for their austere, structured style, built for long ageing.
Since the 1990s, Etienne de Montille has led the estate into a new era. Expanding into Pommard, Puligny-Montrachet, and beyond, he also integrated the former Château de Puligny-Montrachet holdings, creating one of the most impressive portfolios in the Côte d’Or.
Pioneering organic farming since 1995 and biodynamic practices since 2005, Domaine de Montille is now admired for wines that are both authentic and generous. The reds are vinified with whole clusters for aromatic depth and finesse, while the whites display precision, minerality, and purity.
Today, Domaine de Montille stands as one of Burgundy’s great names, producing world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that perfectly express their terroirs and continue to captivate collectors worldwide.
