Tasting notes:Since its creation in 1994, Pagodes de Cos has always been crafted from the grapes of vines that grow on the same clearly defined terroir; they are forty years old on average.

A seductive, balanced, voluptuous wine, the 2020 vintage continues to embody the personality of Pagodes de Cos and is an excellent introduction to the singular style of Cos d’Estournel.

Particularly smooth, Pagodes de Cos 2020 is both delicate and fresh, an elegant, highly delectable wine with seductive notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry, violet, blackcurrant liqueur and tea.

Expert Ratings:

92/100 Wine Enthusiast
This second wine is complex and structured. At same time, it has the proper openness and precocity of a second wine. Likely to age smoothly, the wine will be ready from 2026.

93/100 Falstaff
Dark ruby, purple reflections, a soft brightening on the rim. Subtle notes of fresh herbs, dark wild berries, some nougat, fine savoury notes. Juicy, elegant, ripe cherries, a fresh acidity, integrated tannins, mineral and long lasting, a fine savoury, fresh food companion with ageing potential.

92/100 Decanter
Maintains both a spiced kick and creamy texture through the palate, giving form and character. Silky texture, with cinnamon and saffron-laden blackberry fruits. This is precise and confident with sweet and tender tannins, the power is almost hidden at this point but it is there. 38% of overall production. 4% Petit Verdot completes the blend.

About the Winery:

The history of Château Cos d’Estournel begins in 1811 when its owner Louis Gaspard Lacoste of Maniban Marquis d’Estournel, having inherited some vineyards near the village of Cos, decided to vinify them separately. The wine of Cos d’Estournel was born. Very quickly, the wine surpasses the most prestigious wines and is exported to India. In 1855, Cos d’Estournel acceded to the classification of 1855 as second classified growth. In all, five owners were at the head of Cos d’Estournel. The last one was Michel Reybier, who bought the Château in 2000 and undertook many changes including a brand new barrel cellar but above all, a 100% gravity winemaking cellar: a real innovation in the region. The estate creates red and white wines.
