Tasting notes
The 2023 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges Village offers a concentrated and expressive profile, opening with deep aromas of plush red and black fruits layered with brown spice, a hint of dark chocolate, earthy and gamey nuances, and an iron-tinged, crushed-stone minerality. On the palate, the wine begins with firm, structured tannins before settling into a harmonious and elegant mid-palate. Flavours of fresh plum, vivid dark raspberry, salted liquorice, and touches of tobacco unfold with richness and volume, supported by bright acidity and a supple, velour-like texture in which the tannins become nearly imperceptible. The finish is mildly rustic and slightly dry, with a cool, stony core and lingering notes of black pepper and dried flowers, promising excellent ageing potential for this classic Nuits-Saint-Georges.
More About The Winery
Founded in 1925, Domaine Henri Gouges is one of the most iconic estates of Nuits-Saint-Georges in Burgundy. With 14.5 hectares of prime vineyards, including seven renowned Premier Cru sites, the domaine has built a reputation for crafting age-worthy, terroir-driven Pinot Noir of incredible precision and purity.
Henri Gouges was among the pioneers of estate bottling in Burgundy, beginning in 1933 alongside estates like Marquis d’Angerville. His philosophy of low yields and meticulous vineyard care set the tone for generations to come. Today, the domaine is run by the third and fourth generations — Pierre and Christian Gouges, together with Pierre’s son Gregory, who oversees winemaking.
These are profound, expressive Burgundies that marry power with elegance. Dark fruit, spice, and mineral undertones reflect the limestone-rich terroirs, while the long aging potential makes them prized additions to serious collectors’ cellars.
