Tasting notes

To the eye: Golden yellow
On the nose: Delicate, with floral, white fruit and citrus aromas.
On the palate: A fresh, expressive, mineral and very supple attack.

Clos de la Bergerie is a cuvée from the Coulee de Serrant, one of the greatest white wines of Anjou.
The 2021 vintage represents the 891th consecutive harvest of the vineyard for the Joly family. Aged in oak barrels for 6 to 8 months, produced in very small quantities, it has a unique and very contemporary style.

This wine comes from 100% Chenin blanc. Yields are very low around 30 hectoliters per hectare. The harvest takes place over 4 to 5 weeks in September and October in order to obtain the most colorful maturity possible.

More About The Winery

Few vineyards in the world enjoy the mythic status of La Coulée de Serrant, a 7-hectare monopole in the Savennières appellation of the Loire Valley. Planted in the 12th century by Cistercian monks, it has been celebrated for nearly 900 years as one of the greatest terroirs for Chenin Blanc.

Today, the estate is run by Nicolas Joly, often considered the father of modern biodynamic viticulture. Since the early 1980s, he has cultivated Coulée de Serrant according to biodynamic principles, making it a global reference for natural, terroir-driven winemaking.

The vineyard’s steep, schist-based slopes overlooking the Loire produce wines of remarkable complexity, minerality, and longevity. In fact, La Coulée de Serrant has its own AOC (Appellation Contrôlée) within Savennières — a testament to its singular identity and historical importance.

The wines are renowned for their intensity, depth, and ageing capacity, offering layers of honey, quince, spice, and saline minerality. They evolve magnificently over decades, ranking among the most collectible white wines in the world.
