Wine Region:Burgundy, France
Grape: 100% Pinot Noir.
Tasting Notes:Very young and very fresh with a beautiful red fruit nose. Palate needs more time to integrate but shows lots of lift with the tannins only being prominent at the back end. Overall well balanced. More of a Village in terms of weight and complexity at this stage; perhaps it will improve with time, but a very good drink and well recommended for the price.
Expert Ratings:
Vinous 92/100
"The 2017 Volnay Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of cranberry and wild strawberry scents, almost pastille-like, and the oak is nicely enmeshed. The medium-bodied palate features sappy red berry fruit laced with black pepper and spicebox and exerts gentle grip. This feels quite persistent in the mouth, with a long, saline finish. (NM)"
Wine Spectator 91/100
"Dense, vibrant and juicy, offering cherry, strawberry, floral and spice flavors. Fluid, featuring a backbone of tannins for support. Balanced in a youthful way, with dusty tannins coating the palate. Best from 2022 through 2030. (BS, Web-2020)"
