Tasting Notes
The 2018 Vin Jaune from Le Clos des Grives is a strikingly pure and classical expression of this iconic Jura style. Aged sous voile for more than six years, it displays a deep golden hue and an aromatic profile of remarkable intensity and complexity.
The nose opens with walnuts, roasted hazelnut, curry leaf, and saffron, followed by notes of dried apple, quince, chamomile, and subtle oxidative nuances. Hints of sea breeze and warm spices add lift and definition.
On the palate, the wine is powerful yet precise, with great drive and tension. The texture is ample and savoury, carried by vibrant acidity and a long, saline, almost umami-like finish. Layers of walnut, dried citrus peel, green almond, and gentle spice unfold gradually, revealing depth and persistence.
More About The Winery
As the first Jura estate to use organic farming methods, Le Clos des Grives is Ecocert certified since 1968.
Le Clos des Grives was created in 1962 by Mr. Gaston CHARBONNIER, a pioneer in organic viticulture. Claude CHARBONNIER, after the death of his father in 1982, took over and continued to cultivate the vineyard in an environmentally friendly way. In 2007, Claude CHARBONNIER decided to sell his business to François PETITE. The latter will invest in 2011 in a building to house the winery and outbuildings. In April 2017, Benoit MULIN, his cousin Christophe MULIN, and a few other shareholders acquired the estate.
The Clos des Grives now owns more than four hectares of AOC Cotes du Jura. The five Jura grape varieties are vinified in the cellar: Chardonnay and Savagnin for the white wines, Pinot Noir, Poulsard and Trousseau for the reds.
