Tasting notes
Nose: Subtle and evolved, with faint aromas of dried tobacco, aged leather, and fading red fruits, underscored by nuances of cedar, forest floor, and a touch of earthiness.
Palate: Light-bodied and fragile, showing delicate notes of stewed fruit and mushroom. The mid-palate is hollow, with soft, resolved tannins and muted acidity. The finish is short, gently tapering off with hints of dried herbs and old oak.
More About The Winery
Classified as a Second Growth in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, Château Durfort-Vivens is one of Margaux’s most distinctive estates, combining heritage with a strong commitment to innovation.
Today, under the direction of Gonzague Lurton, the estate has become a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in Bordeaux. The vineyards, planted on deep gravel soils, are farmed with a holistic approach that enhances soil life and allows for a more transparent expression of terroir.
Durfort-Vivens stands out for its forward-thinking winemaking. Alongside traditional oak ageing, the estate has embraced the use of amphora, bringing a new dimension of purity, texture, and precision to the wines.
The blend is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The resulting style is refined and lifted, with notes of blackcurrant, violet, graphite, and subtle spice, framed by silky tannins and a vibrant structure.
Compared to more opulent expressions of Margaux, Durfort-Vivens favours freshness, finesse, and aromatic clarity, offering wines that are both elegant in youth and capable of graceful ageing.
Château Durfort-Vivens represents a modern vision of Margaux—precise, innovative, and deeply respectful of its terroir, bridging tradition with contemporary craftsmanship.
