Tasting notes

The 2020 Domaine Chifflet Saint-Joseph is a powerful yet refined Syrah, offering a vivid expression of the Saint-Joseph appellation. The nose is marked by red berry aromas—notably cherry and raspberry—lifted by subtle oak nuances. On the palate, the wine shows round, supple tannins and a vibrant core of fruit, delivering both elegance and depth. Sourced from a one-hectare organically farmed estate perched high on the steep slopes of Saint-Joseph, the vines are worked by hand and horse, ensuring careful stewardship of the land. Each plot is vinified separately, then artfully blended to create a wine with freshness, character, and balance—a fine ambassador of its terroir.

More About The Winery

In the hamlet of Verdelette, overlooking Saint-Jean-de-Muzols and the Rhône Valley, Paul represents the third generation of his family to cultivate this precious hectare of vines. Unlike his father and grandfather, who sold their harvests to the cooperative, Paul is the first to bottle at the estate, bringing a new identity and vision to the family’s legacy.

The 2021 vintage marks his debut, with a single red Saint-Joseph cuvée crafted from four steep hillside plots worked by hand and horse. The vines are farmed organically (without certification), nestled among cedars and cooled by the altitude, yielding wines of elegance, freshness, and purity.

Each plot is vinified separately, aged in oak barrels, and blended with the guidance of a former master of culture at Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, ensuring precision and respect for terroir.

Paul’s Saint-Joseph is a rare, artisanal wine: a debut vintage that combines heritage, terroir, and a youthful vision, destined to become a hidden gem for Rhône enthusiasts and collectors.
